[Computerwoche] Turaya: The airbag for your operating system

Consortium builds an alternative to Microsofts NGSCB

More Security in a PC-Environment through a combination of Soft- and Hardware – that is the goal of the European Multilaterally Secure Computing Base (EMSCB). The group follows the same idea as Microsofts “Palladium”, which is now called “Next Generation Secure Computing Base” (NGSCB) and will be part of Windows Vista. With the help of a security-chip, the trusted platform module (TPM), applications can be secured against manipulations and frauds. The resemblance of the names EMSCB and NGSCB is not by chance. But, in contrast to Microsoft's concept, Turaya will be an open solution, not depending on a particular platform. It can be modified by the users to adjust it to their own wishes.
